WHO WE ARE

Our Mission

The mission of the NABV is to “ADVOCATE, provide SUPPORT, and cultivate an inclusive COMMUNITY for blacks in veterinary medicine at every level of the profession through the organization, members and leadership.

The National Association for Black Veterinarians (NABV) is dedicated to creating a robust network of individuals and organizations that advocate for increasing the representation of Black professionals in veterinary medicine. By building a pipeline from educational institutions to professional settings, NABV aims to ensure that Black people have opportunities at every level of the profession. Our mission is to foster diversity, inclusion, and pride within the veterinary community, ultimately transforming the landscape of veterinary medicine.

Currently, NABV provides complementary membership to all students enrolled in K-12, pre-vet, and vet school. Institutional membership with NABV offers organizations a unique opportunity to be part of this transformative mission.

OUR CORE VALUES

At the heart of everything we do are principles that guide our work, shape our culture, and define our commitment to those we serve. These values are more than words, they are the foundation of how we operate, collaborate, and deliver lasting impact.

Our organization is committed to ensuring that its members are equipped to successfully compete in the field of veterinary medicine. Gain year-round access to professional development...

COMMUNITY

Through the Jr. NAVB and NAVB Undergrad divisions, high school and college students have a chance to explore the field of veterinary medicine and engage in ongoing mentorship...

PARTNERSHIP

Hire a recruiter, plan an annual Minority Career Day, and provide rewards to black faculty who are engaged in recruitment and retention efforts, e.g., reduce teaching load.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY and INCLUSION

The NABV embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core value and works to ensure that veterinary professions, education and organizations learn to embrace these values as well.

JOIN THE MISSION

Join the Movement

Whether you’re a student, veterinarian, educator, or industry partner, you have a role in strengthening the pipeline. Together, we’re creating lasting change, one future Black veterinarian at a time.

As a proud sponsor of the National Association for Black Veterinarians (NABV), we supported 10 DVM students attending their annual conference in New Orleans earlier this month. 🎓 With 300+ attendees, the event provided valuable networking and learning opportunities. Dr. Shannon Carmichael from NVA’s Sea Island Animal Hospital led a CPR course, and Senior Campus Specialist Charlene Ross participated in a speed networking panel.
